Tin ore mining at Přední Hřebečná is documented in writing to the year 1545, but it probably began earlier. Miners here followed approximately 15 greisen veins, which intersect in the area of the Rote Grube mine (Červená jáma). Surrounding this mine is a preserved system of grandiose surface workings (pineks), which are the largest of their kind in the Ore Mountains and probably in the world. The main, elliptically elongated pinka oriented WSW-ENE, which formed at the site of four originally separate mines, is 230 meters long, about 30 meters wide, and over 20 meters deep; another pinka approximately 120 meters long adjoins this one. Near Červená jáma, there are a number of smaller, though still huge surface workings from the 16th to 18th century, for example, on the Wildbahn vein. The mines were drained by the Jiří adit, which, owing to the relatively flat morphology of the terrain, allowed mining only from a depth slightly greater than 60 meters. The mines at Přední Hřebečná were in operation until the end of the 18th century; later, mining no longer took place there.
