The Jáchymov "Stairs of Horror" are occasionally referred to as wooden stairs that, in the first half of the 1950s, connected the Jáchymov Svornost mine and the eponymous camp built on the slope above the mine shaft. These were 270 steep wooden steps that prisoners, or convicts, had to climb on their way to work and especially on their way back from work to the camp. The stairs ascended a sharp incline ranging from 25-28°, which is roughly a 50% slope to the horizontal. Nothing remains of the original staircase today. However, around the year 2000, a wooden replica was opened in place of the original staircase, which forms part of the educational trail Jáchymovské peklo.
