Lookout Tower Klínovec

The octagonal brick lookout tower was built in 1883-84 as the fifth structure at this location. Over the years, together with the nearby cottage, the building served soldiers and gradually deteriorated. However, in 2009, the buildings changed owners and underwent gradual comprehensive reconstruction. The reopening of the lookout tower occurred in 2013. From a height of 14 meters, after climbing 75 steps, you are presented with a distant circular view of the Lužické and Doupovské Mountains, České středohoří, or Šumava.

Lookout Tower Klínovec

Klínovec - the highest mountain of the Ore Mountains - has been a popular tourist destination since the beginning of the 19th century. In the 1870s, Richard Dotzauer founded the Central Committee to Support the Income Activities of the Inhabitants of the Czech Ore Mountains. In 1882, the town of Jáchymov granted a plot of land for the construction of an observation tower free of charge. In 1884, an octagonal 17-meter-high observation tower was built at the summit. It was named the Emperor Franz Joseph Observation Tower and was ceremonially consecrated and opened to the public on 3rd August 1884. In 1893, a masonry structure with a tavern room and an apartment for the watchman was added to the observation tower.
