Former Mlýnské Chalupy

Zaniklé obce - Mlýnské Chalupy (Mühlhäuser), Břidlová. Břidlová is located by the road from Rotava to Přebuzi, from which a carriage road branches off to Břidlová. Both settlements lie on high mountain slopes that fall into the valleys of streams flowing through here, at an altitude of 810 - 830 meters above sea level. However, the surrounding forests reach nearly a thousand-meter level (Kameniště 938 m, Čertova hora 987 m, Špičák 993 m, and Smrčina 946 m).

Former Mlýnské Chalupy

The German name Břidlové "Schieferhütten" means "slate huts" and relates to the local rocks, which are predominantly crystalline slates (phyllite). By the 19th century, Břidlová had grown into a village with 33 houses and 260 inhabitants. They made a living from modest agriculture and livestock farming.

The name Mlýnské Chalupy originated from a loose translation of the German "Mühlhäuser," which means "mill houses, cottages." In Mlýnské Chalupy, there were three mills for grain and groats and a sawmill. Until 1946, there was a factory for the production of mother-of-pearl buttons. The village had 17 inhabited houses and was home to 73 residents.

Downstream on the right bank of the Rotava stream, about 1.5 km from Mlýnské Chalupy, there were Günther Houses (Güntherhäuser). All three settlements previously belonged administratively to the village of Obora u Šindelové. The inhabitants made their livelihood by mowing hay in the mountain meadows, working in the forest, and bobbin lace making. Later, some men commuted to work at the Rotava ironworks.
