The founder of the remarkable Bořeň Garden was Franz Kotrba, who began building the garden here between 1929 and 1933. He succeeded in creating a unique garden, intending to show ordinary people a beautiful Alpine garden, the likes of which had not been known until then. At the same time, he aimed to highlight the rich flora that Mount Bořeň boasts. This place is even considered one of the most interesting botanical sites in the Czech Republic. On a small area, you can find nearly 500 species of higher plants. The original Bořeň Garden was later expanded to include a forest park in the lower parts of the mountain, where wildlife was kept.

Today, you will unfortunately only find a stone entrance gate here. You will encounter it on the way to the top of Bořeň mountain, in front of the local mountain lodge hidden in the grove. However, the legacy of Franz Kotrba has not been forgotten as the entire mountain area has been a national nature reserve since 1977. Over 90 species of birds can be found here, 22 of which are specially protected. Among other animals, you may come across a fox, badger, green toad, or smooth snake. Since 1996, a nature trail has been available to tourists, lined with informational boards where you can learn about the history of the Bořeň garden as well as the unique local nature.
