Lake Most

Lake Most is located in the northern part of the city of Most, in the area where the historic city of Most originally stood. It was demolished in the second half of the twentieth century due to coal deposits located beneath the city. Coal mining continued in the lignite mine Ležáky until the late 90s. The mined-out pit was flooded with water in the new millennium. Now, the body of water attracts visitors from near and far, regardless of the season. It has quickly become a sought-after destination for athletes and tourists. Join them and let yourself be enchanted by the beautiful nature that is coming back to life here.

Lake Most

The bike path around Lake Most is ideal for walking and cycling. Rollerblading along the entire loop is suitable only for advanced athletes. The loop is quite narrow for inline skating. Additionally, near the northern dog beach and the quiet zone for fauna and flora, there are sections with significant elevation changes. The steep descents in these areas require good riding technique and considerable fitness.

MAIN BEACH

  • Floating access piers, pebble beach, changing rooms, and drinking fountains
  • Toilets and free sunbed rentals (Do not leave sunbeds on the piers after use as they might fall into the water and get lost!)
  • Playgrounds (including a beautiful shipwreck and balance path, check our photo gallery)
  • 3 permanent snack stands, additional food trucks seasonally during summer
  • Charging stations for electric bikes
  • 3 dog beaches (please do not bathe your furry friends or other animals on the main beach)
  • Do not jump into the water as there are submerged stone breakwaters. Safety first!
  • Camping, setting up tents, or having campfires is currently not allowed at the lake (A campsite is in preparation, stay tuned!)
  • Bus No. 16 and a double-decker bus (doubledecker) serve the lake

Lake Most is accessible year-round; you can enjoy a pleasant walk even in winter, and the snack stands on the main beach remain open.

When you see a large number of birds on Lake Most, it's a sign that the smaller ponds have frozen over. Lake Most is one of the most significant wintering sites for waterfowl, including rare species. You can even book a guided birdwatching tour with an ornithologist.

In winter, ice swimmers also head to Lake Most. Ice swimming is healthy, but before you start, we recommend learning how to do it safely. Perhaps the best Czech guide for ice swimmers is the book "Start Now!" by David Vencl, a world record holder in ice swimming under the ice in a single breath without a wetsuit. The Czech freediver and ice swimmer David Vencl also holds regular ice swimming courses and, along with other athletes, frequently heads to Lake Most and Lake Milada near Teplice.
