Vladimir Melichar

Another of our Ore Mountain personalities introduces himself to you. Magistr Vladimír Melichar is an expert in the field of environmental protection, and thanks to Petr Mikšíček, you can take a closer look at his life. After completing his basic military service, Mr. Melichar joined the Administration of CHKO Slavkovský les (1999), where he was responsible for issues related to professional management, specially protected areas, dendrology, and more. He then assembled and led a team of mappers as a regional coordinator, preparing the groundwork for defining the Natura 2000 network in the Karlovy Vary and partially in the Plzeň regions. He participated in the implementation of the Natura 2000 network in the Czech Republic at all subsequent stages both at the regional and national levels. From 2005 to 2010, he established and led the Regional Centre of AOPK ČR in Karlovy Vary, and after its merger with the administration of CHKO Slavkovský les, he held the position of Head of the Nature Protection Department. Vladimír has compiled several dozen biological and Natura assessments throughout the Czech Republic. For example, he is the author of the Nature Protection Concept of the Karlovy Vary Region and has also contributed to the preparation and implementation of the project to reduce and eradicate invasive plants in the Karlovy Vary Region. From 2012 to 2015, he co-organized extensive faunal mapping of amphibians, reptiles, mollusks, crayfish, and selected mammal species throughout the Czech Republic within the Zamenis association, processed for the needs of AOPK ČR. Within his professional specialization, he focuses primarily on the flora and vegetation of peat bogs across the Czech Republic and, in recent years, on some interesting animal species.
