"All those houses that were here, they went past us in pairs. So I thought to myself, they are so beautifully decorated and dressed. I had never seen anything like it because back home we only dressed nicely on Sundays. The people here were poor, they didn't have much. So I thought, when that boy played with me, he had patched-up pants and now he has such a beautiful suit, where are they all going?" This is how Erika Brinkmann recalls the moments when her hometown, which had up to 800 inhabitants in 70 houses, suddenly became an abandoned and almost extinct village. Listen to the story of a captivating lady and two philanthropists, Rudolf Löffler and Klaus Franke, who tirelessly revive the glory of Ryžovna. The documentary was directed by Petr Mikšíček with support from the Česko-německý fond budoucnosti/ Deutsch-Tschechischer Zukunftsfonds specifically for the Day of Extinct Villages at Ryžovna during the 17th St. Wenceslas meeting. The premiere at the site of the former St. Wenceslas Church was hugely successful… And how do you like it?
