Yes, this time we went on a trip in rainy weather, but it certainly didn't detract from its beauty. With the right clothing and a backup plan, you can handle anything, and the treat at the end of the journey tastes all the better for it. So join us on an 8 km loop from Abertamy to Plešivec, a route with an elevation gain of 252 m. Bring little children in a carrier (strollers can only manage with significant route modifications) and enjoy the breathtaking Abertamy landscape.
Since we're starting the trip in the center of Abertamy, it would be a shame not to visit the local museum (especially when it rains). It primarily focuses on the history of leather glove manufacturing and mining, where you can learn about everything in an engaging way through a time machine, with stories about Abertamy told by Marzebilla, miners, and others. On the second floor, there's a workshop where, from time to time, Abertamy's seamstresses showcase their glove-making skills. Highly recommended!
Before heading out, you can refresh yourself at the renowned Bistro Abertamy, where you can either eat a delicious hot meal or take some farm cheese or sausage for a snack. But let’s go outside. We glance at the central landmark, the Church of Fourteen Holy Helpers, and set off on two educational trails - the Plešivec Trail and the 17 Abertamy Stops Trail. We leave the latter after a while and head towards the Plešivec summit. On a pleasant wide path (suitable for strollers), we encounter models of animals typical for the local forests. Our steps sometimes shift to narrow paved paths, we hear the sound of the cable car, and it's clear that we're about to pass through the TrailPark Plešivec. In the winter, the Ski Area with several slopes turns into a fantastic place for all kinds of adrenaline sports in the spring.
At the Pod Plešivcem crossroads, we briefly leave the Plešivec NS and reach Švýcárna hut via the bike path. This is where the educational Krušnohory Legends Trail starts. Over 750 meters, you will meet wooden mythical creatures of the Krušné Mountains. Stories from local old-timers were collected and gave beautiful carved faces to Marzebilla, the fireman, the ghost, Hejma, the gnome, knights, tree women, the devil, and Šrakak. Be sure to stop for a while at the viewpoint with seating at Švýcárna, a pleasant spot for observing the Krušné and Doupov Mountains. Even with the fog, the view is worth it.
After the trail, we continue to climb the road to the Plešivec lookout tower. It was built at a 1029 m high peak by local enthusiasts in 1895. Another 16 meters and 66 steps higher offers a circular view of the Krušné Mountains, the Karlovy Vary region, the Slavkov Forest, and the Czech Forest. You can also refresh yourself at the Plešivec Restaurant, try some attractions at the Plešivec Area, sit on the giant ski chair, or continue downhill. And a rather steep descent - this is the part definitely not suitable for strollers.
The way back to Abertamy is full of beautiful panoramas and mining remnants. Whichever direction you take from them, you can discover some of the most magnificent corners of the Krušné Mountains. At the end of today's journey, we also recommend visiting Villa Zenker, located behind the cheese factory. It is considered a treasure of modern architecture and is today an abandoned First Republic villa of the glove factory owner. Treat yourself to something sweet at Bistro Andrea, and then just soak up the impressions from the trip.
