Snake Mountain, Gorilla, one might think that today we are going on a trip to the ZOO. Don't worry, that's not the case, we are just going to explore a few mysterious places around Boží Dar. This picturesque mountain town is the center of tourist activity in the Ore Mountains. People often feel that there is nothing left around the town to surprise them. But that is a big mistake!
Today we will forgo the most famous tourist attractions and venture into the mysterious trails deep within the Ore Mountain nature. So, pack your backpack and let's get started!
We set off from the square on Boží Dar towards the Church of Saint Anne (which, by the way, can be visited by appointment to learn about its history) and just past the church we join the yellow tourist route leading to Jáchymov. On a gentle hill just past Boží Dar, it's worth turning around to enjoy the unique views of Božídarský Špičák, an iconic hill behind the town. The path offers more vistas too - Klínovec, Plešivec, Fichtelberg, all nicely together.
After a few hundred meters, we delve into the forest and continue on a rocky path towards our first stop of the day. The turnoff to Snake Mountain is inconspicuous, but the views from this myth-enshrouded mountain are breathtaking. Above all, you have a view of the Jáchymov valley here at your fingertips. There is even a bench at the top where you can rest for a while. Just note that at this time of year, the snakes are not to be seen anywhere.
We return to the yellow tourist route and continue past the Snake Spring. Our next goal is the area of the former Bratrství mine. We can get there by the familiar yellow path, which we will leave above the Sport Hotel Můstek; the daring can take a forest, narrow, winding path under the Snake Spring. At the former Bratrství mine, we find nothing today, but once there stood one of the Jáchymov camps. Even this dark past is part of the local history.
From Bratrství, we climb up the road towards the lower station of the gondola leading to Klínovec. If you are looking forward to a ride, we will disappoint you. From the gondola, we would not see the gorilla. This rock formation is not accessible by a marked path, only by a forest trail. We climb the steep hill, push through shrubs, among trees, step over fallen logs and rocks - it’s an adventure.
And then we finally encounter it! The rock formation called Gorilla, a paradise for climbers and adventurers. We prefer to look at the top from below, avoiding unnecessary risks. After enjoying the view and resting, we continue up the hill. We walk until our path intersects with the red tourist route leading from Klínovec to Boží Dar. Hooray, we're back in civilization!
Now we just need to stick to our red route, enjoy the unique views from Neklid and Boží vyhlídka (Boží Lookout) in Boží Dar, and after arriving in the town, grab something good to eat and drink! Hooray, the trip was great, this was really amazing!
