If the winter weather is beautiful, this trip will be a delight for all the senses. Away from busy roads, you'll walk into a magical valley with a strong story and unique atmosphere that arguably every Czech border mountain envies.
In Kovářská, you can park, for example, by the Church of St. Michael and head down the road towards České Hamry. When the weather is nice, you’ll enjoy great views of Klínovec and Fichtelberg, framed by a beautiful alley. Just before the steep descent into České Hamry, turn left onto a smaller road towards Háj. You'll cross the railway bridge and continue on an increasingly narrow and winding road until you reach a saddle with a view of Fichtelberg. Here, at the forest gazebo, turn left and follow the forest path to expansive meadows that lead up to Meluzína. In ten centimeters of snow, you can enjoy a beautiful walk, but you'll need to create your own path. Stay on the ridge of Hájský Hill, walking along Kosturov's Cross to Sieben Euger Kreuz, then turn left along the ancient road. This is the oldest landscape monument in the area, a former trade route between Annaberg and Kadaň.
Following it, you'll reach the first ruins of the fading settlement Königsmühle. By now, you should feel firsthand how unique this place is. This hidden little valley, out of sight of the ignorant, seems to resist time and climate. Its picturesque decay, complemented by various artistic works, feels like a playful children's dance. In fact, children love it here any time of the year.
The valley once had six houses, and they still hang over the abyss of time. We highly recommend visiting the birthplace of Mrs. Rosemarie Ernst, a native of Königsmühle, who celebrated her 80th birthday this year. Volunteers from the DoKrajin association have therefore improved her birth house a little. Here, you will also find the Posiomat, which tells her story and that of the entire community. Just crank it for a while and this remarkable tube will start to speak and sing.
Walk to the shelter in the last building by the forest, where you can warm up or sit under the roof. You are sure to meet friendly people who enjoy visiting this place. Remember all those who lived here and those who have been bringing life back to this locality for the last fourteen years.
You can return to Kovářská along the marked Stezce Českem path through the forest. It is a pleasant 60-minute walk. We wish you a wonderful trip full of experiences and joy from the Krušné Mountains landscape!
