Potůčky have restored a hundred-year-old forest swimming pool in the abandoned village of Pila

Another tourist destination has been added in the Krušné hory. The village of Potůčky, in collaboration with volunteers, has restored a more than one-hundred-year-old natural forest swimming pool in the abandoned settlement of Pila, which is coming back to life after decades.

The origin of the swimming pool is associated with the early 20th century. It served the residents of the surrounding Ore Mountain settlements. After the village of Pila disappeared following the Second World War, it began to deteriorate and was reclaimed by nature. Its restoration began a few years ago thanks to the initiative of local enthusiasts and the support of the municipality of Potůčky.

As part of the reconstruction, the reservoir was cleaned, layers of mud and damaged stone parts were removed, and the dam was newly sealed with an insulating foil. In the future, the municipality plans to ensure a sufficient water supply through a newly constructed borehole and to create a spring with an overflow into the swimming pool.

The historic swimming pool is gradually becoming a popular destination for locals and visitors to the Ore Mountains. Its revival is also supported by the Krušnohorský Cultural Festival, which was held here for the third time this year. It offered music, a market of local creators, and demonstrations of wood carving.

The abandoned settlement of Pila is located just a few kilometres from the German border near Potůčky. Today, in addition to the restored swimming pool, visitors can find mainly the tranquil Ore Mountain nature and many reminders of the history of now non-existent mountain settlements.
