Day of the Vanished Villages III

We invite you to the third Day of Abandoned Villages, which will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Jelení.

In the heart of the Ore Mountains lies a place that has long been a natural part of the local landscape - the village of Hirschenstand/Jelení. The village's fate was initially tied to tin mining, which sustained local residents until its decline in the 18th century. After World War II, life here was interrupted by the expulsion of the original inhabitants, and Jelení gradually faded from maps. Its definitive demise came in 1964 when the engineering unit of the then regime removed the remains of the buildings, including the local church. Today, we can only find fragments of the activity and energy that the residents of Jelení devoted to the village for centuries.

During the Day of Vanished Villages, we will collectively commemorate the history of Jelení through extraordinary cultural experiences. You can look forward to Czech and German bands, a guided walk through Jelení, the premiere of a documentary, exhibitions, great food and drinks, sales stalls, and as the crown jewel - the illumination of the original village of Jelení. ✨

We will introduce the specific program to you soon!

Thanks to the support of the Czech-German Future Fund and the Egrensis Region, entry to the event is free :)
